I've been using this for years to control herpes. It works great. I take it internally. I use 1 dropper full twice a day if I will be having sex. What will work for you may vary. I stop taking it once a week to maintain its effectiveness. If I forget to take it and have a break-out I will take two droppers at a time twice a day, which can speed the healing.
